Manzanita is a small coastal town situated two hours west of Portland on the scenic Oregon Coast. The drive is south of Cannon Beach and Arch Cape, 20 minutes from Hwy 26. Manzanita sits north of Nehalem and Wheeler as you approach the beach from south near Nehalem bay. The Manzanita area, which includes Neahkahnie, is home to about 725 full time residents and is very popular with summer homes owners.
What are the main reasons to visit the Manzanita?
The beach is popular with families, runners, walkers, hikers, dog lovers and Manzanita is well know in the water sports world for windsurfing, kite boarding and surfing at the local breaks. The mountains offer endless mountain bike exploration. The south end of Manzanita is Nehalem Bay State Park. The park offers clamming, fishing, boating, horseback riding, hiking and camping with a bike and Yurt camp. It is very popular and best to reserve camping in the state park in advance.
Manzanita has a fantastic and well run 9 hole par 32 golf course. Its very popular with visitors and residents alike. Book your tee times in the summer.
Neahkahnie Mountain is one of the most prominent features in Manzanita. It stands majestically, often cloud capped, over the north end of our 7 mile long beach with incredible cliff faces protruding into the crashing Pacific below. Neahkahnie is very popular for hiking and photography, with sweeping views of the Pacific. The trail system on Neahkanhie is also the south end of Oswald West State Park, one of the most beautiful and popular hiking and surfing areas in Oregon.
Five minutes north of Manzanita right under Neahkahnie Mountain is Oswald West State Park with beautiful walking trails and a 7 mile hike over Cove Beach for the more adventurous. The park is a must see with picnic benches and fire pits for families as well as great surfing in the summer. Short Sand beach is one of the most popular Manzanita day activities.
